    Description

This is a wonderfully crafted Klickitat Indian basket by the well-known weaver, Nettie Kuneki Jackson (1942-2013).  The human figural motif (with 8 human figures) is known as the friendship design.
Her specialty was weaving coiled baskets using split roots from western red cedar bark, with intricate decorations of natural and dyed beargrass and cedar root skin.
The basket is fully imbricated (a complex process where the dyed cedar is wrapped around the stitches that bind the foundation coils together) and woven around 1990
    .
Her signature consists of the 3 white imbricated stitches on the botton of the basket (4th photo shows detail).  The basket measures 8.5" tall to the gallery loops, 3.75" diameter at bottom, 7.5" across the opening.  Jackson's baskets are sought after by knowledgeable collectors around the world and examples of her work are housed in numerous museums.  Her baskets of this size and quality normally retail for 50-95, so my offering price represents quite a bargain.  This basket has been in my possession for 10 years in a smoke-free environment.  Like new condition without any flaws.
